Participation in the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures(TNFD) Forum

From_February 2023, in support of the initiatives of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), KOEI SING PTE.LTD. (Office: 8 Marina View, Singapore, Chief Executive officer: Ryuma Iwamoto) has joined the TNFD Forum.

TNFD is an initiative for financial institutions and private companies to assess the risks and opportunities related to the natural environment and biodiversity arising from their economic activities to disclose such information, including envisaged countermeasures.

Through encouraging such information disclosure, the development of an information disclosure framework on nature-related risks is being promoted with the aim of achieving a shift to a nature-positive*1 flow of funds.

At KOEI SING, we consider it an important mission to make effective use of natural resources in our reuse/recycling/industrial waste management business and pass the global environment on to the next generation in a sustainable manner.

Through participation in TNFD, KOEI SING will strengthen its efforts to conserve biodiversity, contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and aim to realize a sustainable society.

*1 Nature positive is a term used to express the prevention of further damage to natural ecosystems and their restoration. The global goal is to turn the downward trend in biodiversity into a recovery track by 2030.

Every Sustainable Has A Story.

In order to create a sustainable future, the United Nations has set forth SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which consist of 17 goals and 169 targets. It is a pledge to “Leave no one behind” and a universal goal for not only developing countries but also developed countries which encourages businesses and individuals around the world to take action.

Since our founding, we have developed our recycling business for a wide range of items.

Even if an item is no longer used by someone, valuable materials and parts can be useful for someone else, leading to recycling and reuse. We believe that we have an important role to play as a company that protects the global environment and creates a sustainable future.

In order to fulfill this role, we empathize with the concept of the SDGs and promote various initiatives that go beyond the framework of our business activities. To realize a sustainable society, Koei Shoji will work together with you.

Companies who use our services will join the circle of SDG initiatives

Initiatives to Promote the SDGs

At Koei Shoji, we classify our activities for sustainability into the following categories: environment, education, job satisfaction, health and welfare, and gender equality. We contribute to all 17 goals of the SDGs, and those that are particularly relevant to each activity are indicated here.

Environment: Greenhouse Gas Reduction

In addition to business activities to promote recycling and reuse, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a variety of initiatives.

The Recycling Business of Koei Shoji

Since its establishment, Koei Shoji has been consistently engaged in the recycling and reuse business. We are expanding the possibilities of recycling and reuse by sorting materials and parts that were once disposed of as waste and re-identifying them as valuable materials.

Solar Power Generation

We have installed solar panels on the rooftop of our Yokohama headquarters and are working to promote renewable energy by acting as an electricity provider.

Tree Planting

Koei Shoji is working on reducing greenhouse gas emissions with its tree-planting activities in China, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and other areas. In order to further expand this activity, we launched the Afforestation Points System to work together with our customers. Points are accumulated according to the amount of valuable and waste materials transacted with Koei Shoji, and when the points reach a certain level, we will plant trees.

Supply Chain Emissions and Eco Friendly Activities

Supply chain emissions are an indicator for measuring and reducing the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted in a series of business activities including raw material procurement, manufacturing, distribution, sales, and disposal. Koei Shoji intends to proceed with taking these measurements and tackling the categories with large emissions and high reduction potential first. We will promote eco-activities such as switching to eco-cars for company vehicles and introducing environmentally friendly trucks.

Education: Supporting Children to Learn

We will contribute to realizing an education system where no one is left behind by providing a variety of learning opportunities.

Donating Computers to Davao City

Through the Department of Education of Davao City in Mindanao, Philippines, where Sarah Duterte (the first daughter of President Duterte of the Philippines) serves as mayor, we donated 30 computers to a local school in order to support the smooth operation of online classes for children. We will continue to support education beyond borders.

Working Experience

As part of our working experience program for students, we provide recycled products to elementary and junior high schools as well as special needs schools to use as teaching materials to learn about the recycling process.

Job Satisfaction Realization of a workplace where everyone can work safely and healthily

We are creating a workplace where all people, whether they have disabilities or not, can play an active role by improving the environment with consideration for health and safety.

Hiring People with Disabilities

We have outsourcing agreements with people with disabilities to do sorting and other work in the plant. In addition to commuting to the company, we work on increasing diversity in the way we work by allowing dismantling work to be done at facilities for the disabled.

The Health and Safety Committee and Safety Activities

At Koei Shoji, we take the health and safety of our employees seriously, holding monthly health and safety committee meetings to discuss ways to eliminate accidents and promote healthy management. We focus on ensuring that employees can work in a safe environment and always feel secure.

Health and Welfare: Contributing to Vaccinations

Through the collection of plastic bottle caps, we deliver vaccines to children around the world.

Collection of Plastic Bottle Caps

In cooperation with the NPO Re Lifestyle, we work to provide support for vaccines through the collection of plastic bottle caps. The collected plastic bottle caps are recycled as raw materials by resin manufacturers, and the profits are used to provide polio vaccines for children in developing countries.

Gender Equality: Promoting Participation of Women

We are the sponsor of the OZ Academy to empower women to play an active role in society.

Sponsorship of the OZ Academy

Through sponsorship of the OZ Academy, a women’s professional wrestling organization led by the legendary wrestler Mayumi Ozaki, we will support female athletes and encourage the empowerment of women in society and their activities.

Initiatives to Reduce Supply Chain Emissions

Definition of Supply Chain Emissions

Koei Shoji has positioned the reduction of supply chain emissions as a particularly important issue among its specific efforts to tackle climate change. Supply chain emissions refer to the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the entire supply chain including the procurement of raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, sales, and disposal.

Scope 1: Direct emissions of greenhouse gases by the business operator (e.g., fuel combustion and industrial processes)

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the use of electricity, heat, and everything else described above that is supplied by other companies

Scope 3: Indirect emissions other than Scope 1 or Scope 2 including emissions from other companies such as raw materials, their logistics, and employees’ commuting
